Special train with diesel locomotive D 40
On October 15th, 2011 one of the rare operations of the diesel locomotive D40 in the passenger traffic took place. A special train had been ordered for that day and because the steam locomotives couldn`t be used because the engines were prepared for the winter and the diesel locomotive 2091.03 is away on the Pinzgau Local Railway the diesel locomotive D 40 had to pull that special train, the last train of the 2011 season.

The diesel locomotive D 40 is one of two still existing locomotives of the series HF 200, which was in use for the former German Wehrmacht. The locomotive D 40 was constructed in 1942 by the manufacturer Deutz-Köln, Germany with the number 36643. After World War II the engine was located in Austria and in 1945 it came to the Salzkammergut Local Railway (SKGLB), where the locomotive, which now had the number D 40, was used for freight trains between Salzburg and bad Ischl. After the close down of the SKGLB the locomotive was sold to the Styrian State Railways. Till 1986 the engine was located at Kapfenberg and St. Erhard. In 1986 the Club 760 purchased the locomotive. The locomotive is located at Mauterndorf as reserve and for special events. Because the passengers of the Taurach Railway prefer steam trains, the operations of the D 40 are very rare.

See here some photos of that special run:

Review to the season 2011

The summer, which was not really a summer, is past and so did the train season of the Taurach railway. The steam locomotives are prepared for the winter and it is time to review the season. It was without great attractions except the special train from Mauterndorf to Murau on July 23rd, 2011. Even if e rainy and cold weather during the summer was disappointing for the tourists it was a successful season for the Taurach Railway. The trains all were fulled up, especially the trains on Friday afternoon. Here are some impressions made by our clubmate Mr. Wolfgang Hojna-Leidolf.
